Listening to Chris Thile

I am proposing a contest. A contest to see who the first person is that notices that I am actually posting on my blog. And to the winner of this contest- yes you, the crazy person reading these words, I must say: Why in the world are you still checking my blog? Do you sit at your computer daily, pining the loss of my presence in the blog-world, holding only to the hope that I might write some words that will enable you to somehow get through your day? Or did you just link to my blog by sheer accident, and were you caught off-guard by the sudden glorious images that met your eyes...and in your joyous rapture have you now begun to dance in your room or office or lab...? Whatever the momentous occasion for you checking my blog you have no doubt been caught off guard and hopefully are pleasantly surprised...in any case YOU WIN, and whoever you are- please comment first and I'll buy you a snickers bar. Or maybe I'll just flash you my Italian pearly whites the next time I see you- surely that beats a snickers bar.

So, yes- it's true I am listening to Chris Thile right now. and I'm doing so in Lucy's room, on her computer- which has now become my link to the outside world, to the world where one can do crazy things like check email and write papers. Yes, that's right, the Dell (the Caddy) is currently out for the count. Apparently Kellen was attempting to download Dr. James Dobson's latest radio programming delights and Britney Spear's latest video simultaneously, and the opposing forces shot the thing to hell. Oh well, sometimes you just can't have it all.

I've decided to attempt writing on my blog. You know, since I started one and all. Perhaps this decision has come about because I have decided to embody the fact that not everything I might say will be of the utmost importance in life and death. And perhaps the mundane thoughts of the ball of emotion and energy and sorrow and joy that I am need not be held back from the eyes of you- the glorious public. I am breaking the chains of "my blog must be of the utmost seriousness" concerns, and leaping into the possibility of the mundane as something that might hold challenge and truth and beauty and shit in tension with the cross. I am also leaping into the world of long run-on sentences.

Welcome to the first post of the rest of your "reading Abby's blog" life. Love it.
